Translating small code snippet into Magento controller

Hi, We have a small code that displays a message on the view cart page when a certain item is added to cart. Another message when a shopping cart rule is met. E.g. Message 1: Add 1 more to cart and get discount Message 2: Great, your discount is applied It all works as is (added a block with the custom php loaded by [login to view URL]), but it is cached so we need it in a controller. If you are familiar with controllers it should be a half hour work since we already have the code, it just needs to be in the right hierarchy. Anybody have time to do it right now? Attached is the custom php we load through the block, which you can see on line 1 in the file.
