We use MS Excel Macros to automate web queries for the collection of financial information reported by companies whose stocks are publicly traded from websites which are either open or to which we subscribe. One of our main sites is Hoovers (we have a subscription), and the back-ups are CBS Marketwatch, Yahoo Finance, etc. We have been collecting and re-arranging (1) quarterly income statements (past 5 quarters), (2) quarterly balance sheets (the last 5 quarters) and (3) the most recent stock prices, number of stocks outstanding, market cap, etc. for 3 years, but Hoovers has recently changed its website structure and we need to change many of the programs right away; we would also like to add automation to some of the tasks which have been doing manually. I can supply the code which we have been using (written as Macros in Excel 2003 VBA - Visual Basic for Applications), and I can very well guide the coder. It is important that the code is well documented and clear to read and update. If a good relationship develops, there will be additional projects as things change. More information is added below, and two files are attached. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working VBA program(s) in well-organized Macros in MS Excel 2003. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For the desktop macros in MS Excel 2003 the buyer uses: A spreadsheet with all the macros included in it, and with "buttons" in the spreadsheet itself to run the macros and enter starting rows in case the macro crashes. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Saturday May 13, 2006 1:36:35 PM: Additional information: I have now attached to the bid request the spreadsheet with the macros in a zipped file which also has an example of the changes that have occurred by listing the different pages we would need to now go to to collect information about Intel Corp. vs. the ones we needed to go to before. They also changed the codes which used to be a number with 5 or 6 digits and now are many letters. We originally collected these numbers automatically, hopefully that can be done again. I tried to copy the Hoovers pages for you but they would not let me do that. Once I begin working with a developer, I will give them my user name and password to look into it. We generally track about 1,000 companies. The ticker symbols and the web page addresses are listed on the worksheet "Tickers". You can follow the Macros for collection of the information from Hoovers and see how it works. The "Import and Staging" worksheet is just for the Web Queries and to transpose the information and arrange it. Then we populate the other worksheets: Quarterly Data ("QD") and Latest Stock Price ("LSP"). In the old Hoovers set-up we needed to go to only one web page for all the QD, now we would need to go to two different pages. Once there, one needs to import the appropriate tables and rearrange them as needed. We rarely had problems collecting the QD, but many times the LSP was missing (company was acquired, went out of business, etc.) and then we need to highlight the row in yellow or red and put a "1" in the Error Occurred column on the LSP worksheet. If there is a mistmatch on the QD page or the ticker cannot be found, we need to mark that on the QD page as well, and of course, the data will be missing. When the information needed on the LSP worksheet could not be found on Hoovers, we used to check on CBS Marketwa tch and / or Yahoo Finance, and now there is also Google Finance, so you may want to include it in your bid. If not, just exclude it. If the information is brought in from another source (other than Hoovers) it should be marked in the row in some manner). Any company which has a market capitalization of less than $10 million is of no interest, and you could just mark "1" in Erro Occurred and in Comments say: "too small". ## Platform Windows XP Home edition or Professional edition and MS Excel 2003 (part of MS Office 2003)
