Get my oscommerce website working

I just had all the files from my original oscommerce websit copied over onto a new database. Howevr, the new website is not working. I get the following error when typing in the new website address: # "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." I have asked my web hosting company what needs to be done and I got this message: "You either need to create an [login to view URL] or [login to view URL] page and upload it to the top level directory, or you need to add this to you .htaccess to redirect to the catalog directory: DirectoryIndex catalog/[login to view URL] [login to view URL]" I have tried to create a .htaccess file but it is still not working. I would like someone to get this up and running for me. I will provide ftp access for the coder to complete this project.
