Wordpress: Getting external .json data in a global variable

This is a microjob for you, but a huge one for me. I need to get .json data from this url to a global variable. Look at attachment to see what data (number) im after. Marked in yellow. Data from Json updates every minute. I'm planning to use this variable to create conditional content mainly on my front page. I am open for suggestions if there is a better way to do this.

You can do this with javascript with the help of promise, then you can cache the global variable to be able to access it from other functions only after you did the callback.
