Hello We would like to develop a roadside speed camera which can be used for Zebra crossings. In the United Kingdom, it is illegal for cars to drive across Zebra crossings (crossings marked black and white) but many now do. We would like to develop a camera which can take a photo of cars which drive across Zebra crossings so that the local council can issue a fine to the driver. Therefore, this project will involve designing a roadside camera that can take photos of drivers who drive across Zebra Crossings in the UK.

Hi First of all I am a UK based photographer and a very experienced driver who feels exactly the same way as you. I am also trained to Institute of Advanced Motorists Standard from the days when I was undertaking specialist work for the Home Office. Let's start with legalities. The Department of Transport will only consider designs from within the UK, so the bidders from abroad will probably be wasting their time and you should confine yourself solely to UK bidders. Secondly the camera already exists so your efforts might possibly be in vain. It would simply be a modification of the existing red light and pelican crossing cameras that already exist. I'd be happy to do the research work for you and build a case for the introduction of such cameras, but designing one won't actually mean they would be deployed. That would need parliamentary approval although not necessarily a vote by both houses as it could be introduced using a ministerial measure permitted under the various Road Traffic Regulation Acts and related legislation. Please message me to discuss. Kind regards Barney Douglas.

Do you mean developing a software that will take pictures using a camera and store it in hard disk? I can make programming in c# using direct X hardware video engine giving it a GUI appearance on windows platform. The program can record both video and stills. Thanks Shawon PS: if you want object tracking algorithm I can use OpenCV for that. it's computer vision engine based on c/c++
