Hi, SQL writing is routine task for me. With more than 5 years of experience in SQL for start ups to big organization, I know SQL best practices. The answer to your question is summed as follow: When the data is read only or select statement a row level lock is applied i.e. to lock the row which is there is select statement. When the data is update , first shared lock is applied as in update the first step is selecting data, then exclusive lock is applied. To avoid deadlocks , you must ensure writing (no locks) with SQL select statement . If you need more information just send me a message Thanks
