Python es uno de los mejores lenguajes que manejo, ademas de que uso GNU/Linux como sistema base desde hace ya varios años, administro muy bien servidores linux y mas si es ubuntu ya que su base es debian, y es muy intuitivo, no me tardaría mucho en hacer el script en python, sino que ademas podría usar mis conocimientos en administración de sistemas GNU/Linux y bash script para darle las mejores funcionalidades al script y poder usar de mejor manera los recursos de tu maquina complementando el script con funciones extras de la shell, asi como con los binarios que usa este genial SO de manera natural sin tener que usar librerías de python como subprocess o popen, etc, y si en tu caso necesitas interfaz gráfica , seria realmente fácil, adaptarla con zenity.
