Required: In addition to data in the attached spreadsheet, source required data regarding tech companies VC deals, portfolio sizes and their acquisitions. Come up with and testing 6 different hypothesis regarding Google and/or Yahoo and/or Intel and Microsoft or other software/tech companies with Corporate Venture Capital (VC or CVC) operations and comparing their company's stock price performance post making an acquisition, testing whether the size of the fund and/or deal activity (number of investments) has increased their stock price post acquisition. Example Hypotheses: Hypothesis 1: The greater the number of VC investments a company makes, the better the post acquisition share performance - i.e. making VC investments improves companies larger deal making ability Hypothesis 2: The greater the number of VC investments a company makes, the fewer post acquisition asset write downs a company makes - i.e. making VC investments improves companies larger deal making ability Hypothesis 3: The larger the size of a companies VC portfolio by value, the better the post acquisition share performance - i.e. making large VC investments improves companies larger deal making ability Hypothesis 4: The larger the size of a company's VC portfolio (by number of investments), the more (or less) acquisitions they make in the following year Hypothesis 5: The larger the number of VC portfolio exits, the more acquisitions they make the following year (acquisition confidence?) Hypothesis 6: The higher the proportion of seed to series A investments (by number and by value), the more acquisitions the following year. Hypothesis 7: The higher the number of Series A to Series B investments (by number and by value), the more acquisitions the following year. Please don't be limited to theses hypotheses. I would like to test whether company's stock price performance / acquisition performance can be attributed to their Corporate VC Activity and the aforementioned companies have a lot of activity and are comparable in terms of industry. Also feel free to account for and remove large abnormal investments such as Alibaba in Yahoo's case to not skew data. However, maybe a hypothesis can be made that more VC investment increases probability of large successes such as Alibaba. Please contact me with any questions.
