I am a bestselling author and nationally known expert and advocate for mass transit, bicycle commuting, and reducing car use ([login to view URL]). I wish to create a website for other people who wish to reduce their car use and drive less. My current website is homemade, and looks like it ([login to view URL]). I need to hire someone who can build my new website from the ground up, including a custom news aggregation algorithm that will display daily news stories in my area of interest.
I want the news aggregator to automatically search current news stories from hundreds of online media outlets but only display news stories about alternative transportation, mass transit, light rail, subway systems, carpooling, ridesharing, bicycle commuting, Uber, etc.
Since this is an advocacy blog which will promote mass transit and bicycle commuting, I want the news aggregator to filter out negative stories about mass transit, such as stories about crime on subway systems, bicycle commuters injured by cars, etc.
I would like the news aggregator to run fully automatically (like Google News), but with some simple options for manual curation. Specifically, when I am logged in as the Admin, I would like to be able to remove any news stories that do not fit with my advocacy message, and also be able to add stories that I find on my own which the aggregator did not pick up. I would also like to be able to add relevant videos as well.
So this part of my website would kind of be like Google News, except instead of category headings like "Top Stories," "National News," "World News," "Sports," "Technology," "Entertainment," etc., my website would have headings like "Cycling News," "Transit News," "Alternative Transportation," etc.
I would prefer not to use an off-the-shelf news aggregator - unless it can be fully customized to perform the functions described above.
In addition to the "News" panel on my site, I also want to have a blog, and possibly a merchandise area where I can sell my books, etc. But we can add this functionality later.
I believe this project would be ongoing, with tweaks and changes to the algorithm as we see how it works in practice. I have a simple design that I created for the look of the site.
