PHP, Mysql, push data, socket

I have a webpage that currently uses xmlhttprequest to display data from a mysql database and using php code for all webpages. I was wondering how I can use sockets to push the mysql data from the server to the client browser. The server would have a query that is executed and push the results to the client. The only thing the client can click on is two hyperlinks which opens a new window, data is changed and when saved it goes back to the page where the data needs to be pushed and now the record just edited doesn't show since now it doesn't get selected in the query.
