Needed: Community Site, php/MySql based

Synopsis: A community site with a message board, IRC based chat, user profiles, file storage, database, and utilize a tiered access system. Controls and privileges should affect all these areas. - The core of the project is basically a highly customized, subscription based version of Yahoo! Groups. You should be extensively familiar with all of the features and functions both as a member and a moderator, as they will all be required in one way or another. - An extensive Requirements Document will be provided. Refinements, suggestions, and feedback for efficiency and usability will be expected. - The bulk of site aesthetics, artwork, and template design will be provided, as well as a rough prototype with a few functional UI elements. - Project will be subject to iterative development. - Organization will be provided a focus group for feedback, testing, and suggestions. This is not design by committee however, and the organization will ultimately only report to one individual. - Finalists and successful organization will be required to sign an NDA, and be able to demonstrate previous work on projects of similar scale and be prepared to provide code samples if requested. - Ideally we would like to form a long-term relationship for addition of other applications and changes to site, as well as outsourcing of additional projects of various sizes. ## Deliverables Other features that will need to be included: - Groups based web space (for creating internal mini-web sites with a "group") - Chat will be provided via IRC to a partner network. Each group will have a designated channel, the permissions of which will be controlled via the site to a "egg drop" bot or similar. (i.e. Moderators given Ops permissions, members subscribed to group have access to group channel, guests to channel are de-voiced, daily room logs stored on site for user reference. etc.) - Site should have a web based IRC console for accessing group's #channel. Prefer to have application auto-login the user. (Users will be able to connect via third party apps like MIRC, BitchX, etc. as well.) -Message Board system needs to emulate Yahoo Groups style (by post number) or be viewable threaded by topic. Messages will have a weighted rating system for readers to rate the usefulness of contents. Average ratings applied to posts and to the author. -Web based, database driven outline system. Should enable to easily add, arrange, and organize information. User can assign parent selections to entries to establish a hierarchy. Auto-versioning features. TimeStamping of entries. Labeling of entries. To conserve resources, have static paging of info which is regenerated once and hour (or so) or unless “forced?? by a Moderator. Possible options for exporting in either a DB, or text file form. -Subscription system will need to be modular to add ecommerce processing, but initially will just tie to a PayPal or similar payment system. - Extensive user profile section. - Excellent search functionality of all group information (profiles, posts, file descriptions), with basic options for novice users and advanced search for those who know what "grep" means. - Web-based administration for Group Moderator controls. (Customization of Group name, slogan, group site colors, ban, delete, etc.) - Web-based administration for Site administrators, with multiple security layers. -Report and activity generation for administrators, site traffic, user demographic data, referral statistics, member info, etc.) - A top level group accessible to members of all groups as a "headquarters for site-wide issues and administrator contact. - General Support for 1.5 times the length of project. Extended support for coding errors, bugs, negligence, security issues. - Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. -Full documentation, and well annotated and organized code. - Complete copyrights to all work purchased. Restrictions from building a similar application for a same or similar industry for a minimum of 2 years. (Project is highly targeted, so it's really not that big an issue.) ## Platform Initial Requirements: Entire platform should be scalable. Primarily built with XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL. XML is a plus. C and/or PERL may be used to make applications more processor and bandwidth efficient. High traffic estimates (initial). - Support over 5000 users simultaneously. - 20,000 message postings a month. - 100 concurrent IRC channel users. - Over 2GB of site data transfer per day. Automated back-ups and redundancy. Browser and OS compatibility IE 5.0 and up, NS6.2/Mozilla1.0 and up, Opera 5.0 and up for *NIX, Windows and Mac. Initial hosting and servers have been established, so this is limited to software impact and recommendations on hardware and bandwidth scaling as site usage grows. Hosting is on a dedicated server running: Apache/1.3.19, on Red-Hat/Linux -mod_fastcgi/2.2.10 -mod_ssl/2.8.1 -OpenSSL/0.9.6 -PHP/4.0.4pl1 ## Deadline information Completed project should be delivered with sufficient time for stress-testing and beta-testing site.
