Running Sum in Access Subform

Think of this like a check book register. There is a beginning balance, in this case it is current inventory on hand. I have an subform based on a UNION query that derives it's data from three separate tables. 1. Purchase Orders, 2. Sales Orders and 3. Work Orders. The query/subform shows in date ascending order four fields. Date, Source(text), Qty., and Order#(text). The data tables are ODBC linked SQL dbo tables. Purchase orders show a positive amount because it is a supply. The sales and work orders are calculated in the base queries as negatives, i.e. [Qty]*-1to be subtracted from the beginning balance, as they are demand. I would prefer to have a solution that is fast, so DSum is not to be considered. The Union query filters on a Form!myMainform!myfield to filter for a specific part #. There are three additional data fields that are used for filtering, via criteria in the query, but are not displayed in the results. I am not using the computer that has the application on it at this time so I cannot show a screenshot of the form. I am not sure that is needed, but can be provided if needed for bid [login to view URL] this is attached to company data I would need to create a sample database with false data to use for development. Before I do that I would like to get an idea of the cost.
