I have a current logo that needs optimization. This logo is for my business, which is as an independent cat behavior consultant. I help people - and animal shelters - solve their cat issues. While the design of my new logo successfully relates some of the personality I am going for, it is not quite there yet. Specifically, what is working for me about the logo is: 1) It is playful and slightly girl-y while also projecting strength and confidence. It's superhero-ish without being too cartoonish or over the top. The energy of the font is appropriate. 2) Everything is about to go haywire because of the cat, but the girl's got it under control. I like this because when people contact me they are usually at a high point of frustration and anxiety so conveying a sense of ease and that it will be alright is point on. 3) I like that the girl seems professional and you can take her seriously.
What is not quite working for me about the logo is: 1) I don't know that the cat and the girl reflect the energy that I want, they are a little boring to me even though they seem to be positioned well and doing the right thing. The features of both the girl and the cat (their eyes and face, for example) are lacking in the way they are drawn. The antics - or perhaps the curiosity - of the cat are causing quite a problem and the font conveys this, but the cat really doesn't, he's kind of bland. The girl too. She's fine, I guess, but she's missing something. Her outfit projects competency, but it's also boring. I don't know if its the outfit itself, or the color or something else about how she is drawn, I just know this is the way I feel about it. Her facial features are too basic. She's based on me because I have shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes. But there's no "zip" to her. And I hate turtleneck sweaters. 2) I'm not sure about the color scheme on the whole. I like the color and energy of the font in the front part of the logo, ("That Cat"), and maybe the back part is fine too, but it's like it doesn't maintain its energy through the whole logo, by the time your eyes scan to landing on the girl, the energy has taken a little hit and maybe the burgundy color is contributing to that, I'm not really sure. I'm taking a stab at trying to communicate why Im not totally happy with the logo as it is, but I really have no idea how to optimize it. I need to work with someone who knows a lot more than I do about how creative elements fit together and why I might be feeling the way I am.
Also to note, the girl figure that is in the logo, I might want to use her outside of the logo as well. For example, I might want her to be positioned next to some sort of text on my (TBD) website. Or I might want to use her in an illustration of a cat behavioral concept. I might want to use her to tell a short story. I would like to work with someone who can bring the character to life, not just in the logo, but for potential illustrations that might come later. And the same might be true for the cat.
