I am a quadriplegic resulting from a car accident in 2008. I have three kids ages 18, 16, and 11. My 11 year old girl lives with her Daddy in Missouri and I haven't seen her in six years. I don't have transportation and I can't afford a plane ticket. I live in a small town, so the only means of transportation available to me is local transport that is limited to doctor's appointments and one non-medical trip per month. I need a handicap accessible van with either a ramp or a lift, preferably a full-size van or a van that seats 4-5 people, including the driver, so there is room for all my children. I also want it to be customized so that I can get myself into the van and drive it. I get very depressed because I can only go certain places and I can't take my kids with me, not to mention, my lack of independence. My only income is Social Security, so I can't afford to purchase a van, but I can maintain it. Having my own transportation would make our lives so much more fulfilling. The average price of a new van, equipped especially for a quadriplegic, is between $28,000-$50,000.
