We need an Excel macro which does the following: we have many spreadsheets, as many as 100, with lists of names, work titles, work department and email. The macro needs to find certain keywords in one of two columns (it must search both columns) and then select the complete record and export it to a separate spreadsheet. We need to be able to find a range of keywords. For example we might say, find all records with any of the following words in the specified columns: biology, medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, healthcare, etc. etc. We also want an exclusion feature if possible. For example, we would like to say, find records with any of the keywords listed but exclude records with the following terms: part-time, consultant, adjunct, etc etc. Finally, we want the macro to search one spreadsheet after another and so we need some form of panel to specify which spreadsheets to search. All of the spreadsheets can be in one directory if this helps. Most single spreadsheets are a few thousand records but some are as large as 10,000.

I have a university degree in economics and IT, and several decades of system design and programming, in the recent decade especially in Excel and VBA.

Your project sounds very interesting and simple enough and I believe that I'll be able to perform the task perfectly. Considering the great amount of data, my suggestion is to convert every spreadsheet into one database. I think that would be much quicker. Anyhow, I can create whatever you need whether you want the conversion or not.

The requirement stated is to get data from any of the sheet with 2 keywords search.
Input :- 2 column name , 2 keywords
Output:- all the data from various sheet.
Or
Input :- 2 keywords to be searched ,
Output :- all the rows from the sheets which fit this criteria.
Additional feature :- keywords to exclude few rows. From the output.
Please clarify your requirement I have experience in VBA and excel sheets. I think I can complete the task.
I will make a macro which will work as under:
1. Display an inputbox to enter the search keywords separated by commas. If you are not comfortable with this arrangement, it can ask for keywords until you enter a zero length keyword.
2. Display another inputbox to enter exclusion keywords. Same logic as in step 1.
3 Then it will search the values, leave the exclusions and copy the current record in a new work sheet. After First find it will create a new worksheet in the same workbook and all subsequent finds will be copied in that worksheet.
This macro you have to copy in each work book.
if you want to search many workbooks / worksheets, then I can a make an VB application which will ask you to choose the directory to search and then search all files in that directory. Alternatively you can search a single file. However, this will cost you US$ 200.

as there is many spreadsheet and high number of records, i would like to suggest to use visual basic instead of Macro as Macros will freeze Microsoft excel till it finish which might take some time with large number of records and many search criteria.
