Assignment Description You are required to submit a technical report describing the review and study of the control software installed on a climbing robot. The control software consists of two parts, the server software on the climbing robot and client GUI software on a PC which can remotely control the robot. The communication between the client and server is through RS232 port. The main contents of the report should cover the following points:
 Title: Review and Study of the Server Software of a Climbing Robot. Aim and Objectives. Review of the methods to read data from/write data to a RS232 port Introduction (What is a RS232 port? What is the purpose of using a RS232 port?). Historic development of computer I/O ports. Main applications of RS 232 ports. The methods for using RS232 ports for data transmission. What is the Client and Server Model? The sever is interrupt driven, explain what is interrupt? Summary. Study of RobotServer.c in your VLE module site (you are suggest to use Visual Studio to open this file). I have put comments to the codes and split the program into 6 parts. Explain the functions of the first 4 parts in the programming point of view. Take a look of the main() function and explain how the server works. Take a look of the selectcom() function and explain the main role of this function in this program. Summary. Conclusion. Your achievements and comment on this assignment. Note that you can search relevant information on the Internet but shouldn’t copy any work developed by other people although you are allowed to use the fragments of available programs for analysis and discussion purpose. You need to self-learn some new technical concepts and terms, program statements and hardware control commands, which is a good opportunity for you to enhance your ability to solve an engineering problem with a software approach. You cannot compile and execute the Robotserver.c program as there is not hardware support for it. Your report should be 10 pages long or so.
