SPIRAC was found by Richard Bruke in Malmoe, Sweden in 1966. Back then SPIRAC focused on the export of shaftless spiral conveyors for garbage handling in apartment buildings in the UK, Germany and Holland. SPIRAC taken out patents for SPIROLIFT our vertical shaftless spiral conveyor technology and SPIROPRESS a solids handling dewaterer.
Shaftless Screw conveyors were and still are an environmentally friendly, space-saving and reliable solution for effectively handling difficult materials often found in the wastewater industry. In 1989, Joakim Ramen became General Manager for Australasia with the ambition to establish SPIRAC as wastewater solutions provider in the area. As a young father and months without orders, Kim started to doubt the feasibility . Nevertheless, he persevered and was rewarded with his first project order a Live-Bottom Silo for the Subiaco Wastewater Treatment Plant in Western Australia.
In the early 90s, Kim became CEO of SPIRAC and the company headquarters relocated from Malmoe in Sweden to Perth in Australia. Some might wonder why Perth, the most remote city in the world. Perth’s proximity to Singapore helped SPIRAC developing a network of sales representatives around Asia. The company grew rapidly into the 90s through product line and technology growth, regional and global market expansion.
