A Dancers Ambition
Heart beating rapidly, drenched in sweat, anxiety racing, I am a complete wreck. As the announcer calls my name, Tabitha Davis from Philadelphia up next. So many thoughts flow through my mind. What if I mess up? What if my timing is off? Am I really ready for this? Can I even do it? Now approaching the curtains I feel a deep drop in my belly, noticing how moist the palms of my hands are and the intensity of my body I was about to break down in fear. I am Even more discouraged when my competitor is doing her routine. The crowd was roaring and very amused by her performance they couldn’t get enough of her. She opens the curtains and says, “Top that, oh wait you can’t.” with a sarcastic tone and shoves me. It was now my time to perform and prove her wrong. Walking very slowly to the middle center stage the lights flash directly on me, and the audience is completely quiet. Even though I knew I was nervous when the music started I felt free. Boom, tap, tap, Boom, tap, tap, Boom, tap, tap, boom, was the bass of the music and the elegance of my foot work tapping to the floor. As I dance I feel the music flow through my body and before I knew it my performance was over. Now as I stood backstage waiting for the announcer to call the winner, I could hear my heart pounding in my chest. I could not believe he called my name, the audience and I was astonished and I knew since then that dance was destiny.
