The world has changed a lot during the past few years, so has man's lifestyle also. His eating habits have changed too. Man, in his hunt for money, is spoiling his health, eating anything and everything that he gets, nowadays resort to having fast foods, rather than home made ones. Even young children are prone to such temptations. The main reason behind this is the mouth- watering smell and taste these fast foods offer. Fast food was once the favorite of Westerners, but it has now conquered the minds of the Orientals also. It has now spread all over the world like fever,"Fast Food Fever!", as people commonly call it.
Another reason behind the preference to such food items is the lack of time, at home, to make food. In this period of Third Wave feminism, all the 'house-moms' have become 'office-moms', and they find little time at home to cook. The easiest way they find is buying fast food for their 'dear ones'. Moreover, the 'dear ones' are also very much pleased with these 'delicious' items than home- made ones.
Although resorting to fast food saves time, there are many bad effects that fast foods cause on human health. Fast foods have high fat and content which causes diseases including a rise in the cholesterol level, leading to weight gain and obesity, leading to heart diseases. many preservatives are also added in these fast foods which can even be the cause for cancer. It is loaded with calories from sugar which can be the cause of yet another disease, Diabetes, the rich man's disease. It also lacks fibre, vitamins, minerals etc, which are very much essential for the well-being of our body.
As consumption of fast foods is a health hazard, it is better to avoid it at any cost. One need not stick to the expression "From the cradle to the grave" concerning the matter of fast food consumption because it can surely be avoided if we decide to. A rapid change in food habits may not be possible, but it can be done slowly, for " Slow and steady wins the race".
