The income tax is completed EXCEPT for the foreign tax credit. I had this tax prepared at an office who was able to complete everything except the foreign tax credit (because they do not specialize in these kind of taxes). They have provided me a complete PDF that I can send to you with all the needed information. I live in the USA for more than 1/2 of the year, but earned income while living in Switzerland. I am not a high income taxpayer, but certainly do not want to pay more tax that I have to, and as I understand the foreign tax credit will help limit my USA tax liability. I would like to get this done as soon as reasonably possible. I understand for someone with the knowledge this is not going to be difficult and since the rest of the tax is prepared, it should be quite simple and I will give you any information you need in a timely fashion. I will, of course, also need you to file the return for me (I can sign the e-file authorization forms digitally or physically based on what you need). Thank you. ~ K

I am familiar with the foreign tax credit that you mention. As a seasonal tax expert for Turbo Tax, I deal with this issue often. The portion of your US income tax that is represented by foreign income can be reduced by subtracting any foreign income tax you paid on the same income. Consequently, all or a portion of your foreign income tax may be available to reduce your federal tax liability. Any credit not allowed in the current year could be carried forward to future years in which you may have foreign income again. All I would need to resolve the issue would be a copy of your tax return and the amount of your foreign income and tax paid on that income. In order to file the return, I would need to enter it into my tax software and have you sign a release form authorizing me to file it for you. I would charge you $150 for the project.
