b. Give an example of market prices being significantly affected by a recent macroeconomic event. Illustrate your answer with a chart, labelled to show when the announcement occurred. [10 Marks]
2. Political Events
a. Investigate how political events and speeches impact financial markets. [15 Marks]
b. Provide an example to illustrate your argument, together with a chart to show the direct effect of a political event on a particular market. [10 Marks]
3. Global Economic Cycles
a. Evaluate the impact of global economic cycles on asset prices. You must include a diagram of an economic cycle and briefly explain what is happening during each phase of the cycle in terms of government stimulus, employment and company profits. [15 Marks]
b. Provide an example of a financial asset that has been directly affected by a country’s economic cycle, together with a chart to show the effect that asset’s price. [10 Marks]
4. International Trade Balances
a. Investigate how international trade imbalances are created and explain how trade surpluses and deficits can effect financial markets and/or currencies in the different countries. [15 Marks]
b. Identify one country which runs a trade surplus and another country which runs a trade deficit, and present charts to illustrate the historical values of each. [10 Marks]
