When possible the writer should connect the topics to secondary education.
Question One:
In an era of a “narrowing curricula” and newly implemented Common Core State Standards, teachers are often expected and mandated to base their instruction on commercially designed materials. However, many teachers and schools believe that when teachers have the opportunity to design their own instructional materials to meet the needs of their individual students, student achievement increases. Discuss the theoretical underpinnings of teachers designing their own instructional materials, and how those ideals and practices may be applied in schools. Additionally, outline the parameters of what constitutes teacher-designed instructional materials, and how they differ from commercially designed materials. Finally, identify any themes and major findings that have emerged from the research on teacher-designed instructional materials and the methodologies employed in this research.
Question Two:
Build on your findings regarding teacher-created materials from the previous question, and explain what major philosophies and theories of learning and teaching inform and influence teacher-created materials. Next, specifically explain how utilizing a mixed methods approach would best reflect the philosophical foundations of teacher-designed materials, and potentially help add to the scholarly research related to teacher-designed instructional materials.
