Convert a basic existing Website design into email template

I have an existing Joomla website which the customer wants to use the basic layout as the template for an email newsletter. The website is a fairly simple basic design where there is a header, some menu links below it, a main content on the left with a sidebar on the right and a footer with 4 blocks in it.
What I believe I require is this design recoded into a more simple html so that it is compatible with most email softwares, perhaps using simple table layout, I am open to suggestions there. Website is currently based in Joomla.
