I am looking for a small project to design and manufacture a temperature sensor that is powered via Power over Ethernet. The device would need to operate in cold conditions -10 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity levels and provide the ability for an app to poll the device and retrieve the current temperature. The device should accept three external temperature probes (the probes must be included in the project) and could use a probe that is already available in the market. The device would need to get an IP address via DHCP that existed on the network already and have a very basic interface. All software to run the device must be included in the project. When complete we want to be able to simply poll the device via its IP address and retrieve the readings. We would poll it every few minutes, so there is no need to store a lot of historical data. To complete the project i need 5 fully functional units to test in a real world environment and then all the drawings, plans, etc to get small quantities manufactured (20-30 at a time). Design does not have to be in the US, but manufacturing must be US based. The winning bidder on this particular project would provide us all the drawings and design as well as whatever software is needed to run the device and allow us to poll the temperature. The prototype can be built on any type of circuit board (even if it isn't very pretty) but it needs to work and be able to with stand the temperatures it will be operating in. This is my first attempt at this so please pardon my attempt if it isn't perfect. John

Hi, I can design IP based controller that can work remotely and can even operate over wifi. We can use single board linux computer with Arduino boards together to form such device. These devices are having extensive processing power (~1Ghz speed processor) and storage capacity. Apart from all these features, it is Linux board and so it can be connected like regular PC. It supports ethernet and also having USB ports and we can connect wifi dongle to make it completely mobile. It can operate on battery or usb power pack. PoE (power over ethernet) is not supported but we can make it manually to isolate power lines from ether wires and to have a voltage regulator to supply 5V requited for these boards. I can take care of software part of these boards and it can even update a centralized server periodically. So user can connect to the centralized server to see all data in one place. It supports DHCP and number of devices can dynamically attached to the network and can be removed. But I am not in to manufacturing line. I can provide you the circuit and configuration of this device and software required individual boards and for PC (if you want to centralize the data). But you need to take care of packing this hardware in to a case (just packaging). Going by single board computer, this device or node can be an intelligent one with excellent CPU and processing capability. There is small issue of power, i will suggest to have battery as a power source. The hardware will send battery status with teperature readings, or it can initiate an alarming situation when battery is near to finish. Please note; Deliverables will be: 1. Five (5) units of working prototypes. 2. All the documents including Gerber files, schematics etc. 3. Firmware of micro controller, 4. Test application for windows OS to test the functioanlity. 5. The PCB layout and 3D views of the prototype. 6. Any Enclosure (if required) for PCB. Also note, The shipment charges are not included in the bid. I have a couple of questions though before confirming the bid.. 1. You mentioned manufacturing in US. That is required only for final product, am I right? The initial prototypes would be assembled at my place, tested and shipped to you... 2. Once the initial prototypes are approved and the gerber files, software, diagrams etc. are transferred to the manufacturere selected by you, what is the type of support you need? 3. Hi John, I can provide a project based on a poe module (like lm5070 for example) and a mcu + an ethernet control module ( like W5100 ) + TMP36 sensors to accomplish this project (mcu can be an stm32, or even an atmel or a pic ..) The size of the pcb design should not be bigger than a credit card. All documentation and design documents will be provided as requested, and lifetime maintainance of the project (with actual specifications) will be provided for free, during test period and even after that. I cannot set lower price. Please read further: I can complete your project in 2 ways: 1st way is to do it with Arduino uno and the Ethernet shield. If this means nothing to you - it is a ready assembled commercially available hardware. Up to me is to design only the software part which will in your case I think will be a simple web page with a table with temperatures. This will take me not more than a week or two and will cost you $500. This includes detailed explanation of how to connect the probes to the board which is pretty easy. If you want me to ship it to you add the cost of the parts + the shipping. I really prefer this option. If you don't have any experience with dealing with PCB manufacturers and electronics suppliers I think this is the better option for you too. 2nd option is to design the product from scratch, which will be again based on a similar hardware, just this thing will be designed by me for you. The "performance" will be the same as option 1. This option will cost you $1300. I will deliver the schematics, BOM, and a working prototype, which of course will not look as good as the real thing. About the temperatures - no matter what option you choose you are dealing with LOW temperatures. This means that it is not the design of the PCB or the components that matter, but the housing. The problem with low temperatures is the condensation effect. The proper way for electronics to work is to be sealed with a special spray or silicone and put in a IP67 box.
