We have an add-in for MS Office 2000/XP/2003. In this project we want to add a database that contains logs of ever access to any document accessed with our add-in. For each access we would like to record. Who accessed the document? Username (taken from existing code), hash of password (taken from existing code), 8-spare fields for future ID information (first four labelled biometric (1,2 and 3), smartcard. What was accessed? Document name (taken from existing code), Originator (taken from existing code), Other editors (taken from existing code), DOI (taken from existing code), Groups (taken from existing code), Number of edits. When was it accessed? Log in time on user's PC (and on server). Access time (if possible). Log out time on user's PC, (and on server). Where was it accessed? IP address, PC HDD number (I can give you code for that if you have not got it) and other identifiers that can be accessed readily (perhaps owner of Word and Windows used) [please suggest]. User's group (taken from existing code). The database needs to be searchable with booleans so that administrators can check if looked at on or to check who in looked at documents by on in date span for example. There should also be a database field for intrusion and hacking/cracking alerts too - so bits are set if we think that here has been some attempt to hack/crack either the document or the add-in. This is for future expansion but having some simple detection at this stage would be nice - even detecting crtl-break keypresses or printscreens key presses. Later we can add checksums of the document and of the plug-in itself.
