Hi, I currently use Blender to create 3D models. For texturing/mapping, I only use the integrated UV image editor without creating material each time.
My problem is when I want to bake to create lightmaps witch includes texture color. I can only create lightmap with ambient occlusion, shadows... but not textures color.
The only way I found to do so is to have two UV texture layers (one for texture another for future lightmap) and to create a material for each texture, and this material must have two texture levels (one for the texture [Map to col] with the texture UV layer and one for the future lightmap [Map to nothing] with the second UV layer.
Then I just have to unwrap the model in the second uv layer and bake.
My request is for a script witch will start with 1 3d model textured (using only the UV image editor) with different texture but with no linked material. And will give me the same 3d model but added the ability to bake textures+lighting.
This is how I think is the best way to do:
(the 2 UV layers are used by all the material and can be not created by the script it's not a hard job to create them manualy)
-for each texture used: create a material with the color texture mapped to "col" with the first UV layer and the lightmap texture mapped to nothing with the second UV layer
Ask me if you have any question as I may not be very clear.
