Activate Joomla Search Field

This is another in a series of soooooper easy projects. I have a site that is running Joomla v3.0 and the Sync template ([url removed, login to view]). I would like to get the search feature working correctly. Right now this is how I have my menu/module/position setup:
Search menu item > Search module > Search position
However right now I only have a button in that space, when I thought the search field would be there instead.
Kinda new with Joomla but wanting to learn how it works so I can do this on my own.
Looking for someone to tell/show me what I did wrong and how to get this working correctly.
Aside from activating the theme, no other files have been modified so far. If you know your stuff and want a quick easy assignment, please bid! :)
