Counter that displays the total number of article and current one

I have a module/slider on my joomla website that displays the articles in fancy way. I would like to have counter that shows to my clients how many articles there are and which one he/she is watching at this moment. It would look something like this 5/37 ... 5th article out of 37 articles totaal. I think this can be done very fast, I have manged to do something on my own but it doesn't work right.
