Customization of VANILLA Webforum (PHP)

This project involves customization of an Vanilla Web Forum (open source). You can get the code at [login to view URL] CURRENTLY: the operation of the forum software has the following hierarchy: 1 Website -> Many Categories (aka: forums) 1 Category -> Many Discussions (aka: threads) 1 Discussion -> Many Comments(aka: replies) User's have "roles" (member, administrator, etc) that are site wide, meaning that if I am a administrator, i can administer accross ALL categories. If I am a member, I can post in ALL categories. Users are also given the following discussion filter options: 1. Bookmarked Discussions 2. My Discussions 3. Private Discussions THe above are applied site wide. WHAT IS NEEDED: A) Group Feature I intend to add an additional GROUP layer on top of the existing hierarchy. New hierarchy : 1 Website -> Many Groups 1 Group -> Many Categories 1 Category -> Many Discussions (threads) 1 Discussion -> Many Comments (replies) Each Group would have a fixed list of members (creator of the group automatically has an admin role). Non members cannot access a Group's categories. "Roles" will also only be valid WITHIN the group. For example, if USER A is admin of GROUP A, he has full admin rights over all categories in GROUP A, but not GROUP B. Thus it is possible for USER A to have many different roles, 1 role per group. Users must also be allowed to be able to filter their discussions both SITE WIDE (across all groups) and GROUP WIDE (only within the current group view) The filter options are 1. Bookmarked Discussions 2. My Discussions 3. Private Discussions. B) Email Notification 1. When a new comment has been posted to a discussion that a user is participating in, an email should be sent out informing the user that there has been a new reply. (The user should only be informed ONCE, until he logs in again) 2. When a new user signs up for a group, the group administrator should be notified via email that a new user has joined. ## Deliverables Finally: This is NOT a TERRIBLY hard project, but it is not that simple either, and requires improvisization on the coder's part. The existing code however, is VERY clean and elegant, and very well coded (beautiful use of classes). I'd highly recommend experienced PHP coders to attempt this custom mod. I do not mind paying more for someone who knows exactly what he is doing, and possibly bonus if u complete it quickly. 1) a) All the above mentioned should be implemented and work perfectly, WITHOUT sacrificing ANY of the original functionality of the script. Implementation of the "group" feature would obviously need some modification of the how the existing functions (such as whispers, etc). How the modified function will work will need to be further discussed. The GROUPS table would need to be separate, so I can hook it up to the rest of my site I am trying to integrate it. 1) b) Obviously, the db schema would need to be altered a bit, but the idea of creating 1 or more new tables for every group created should not be used. The number of total table shd remain the same after script installation. installation of the script. 2) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 3) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform PHP5.0, MYSQL.
