Produce two written reports (each worth 20% of the marks for the unit), as detailed below. The best time to undertake Report 1 is at the end of the first lesson. The best time to undertake Report 2 is at the end of Lesson 6 and after you have completed the design and development for your website. **Report 1:** "Looking at the competition" Imagine you have been asked by a client to carry out the first stage of a proposal to design a new website for a company. A website is a product, and as for any new product, it is essential to assess the competition. Report 1 should be completed and submitted to me by 11/May/2004. **Report 2:** "Usability" This assignment is based on the website that you have created for assessment item 2 - 'Website design assessment'. It is recommended that you commence reading for this assignment at the start of the unit and continue your reading and research as you develop your website. You should aim to finish this report after you have completed the website. Both items (Report 2 and 'Website design assessment') will be handed in together. Report 2 should be completed and submitted to me by 25/May/2004 **Assessment 2:** Website design assessment (60%) Design and publish a website of your choice. It is important that your website has a clear target user group, and you must be able to identify the type of client who might commission such a site. Make sure you choose a theme with a sharp focus and one in which you have some knowledge or interest. For example, choose children's books rather than just books.
