We currently have a web application that pulls statistics (basic graphs like pie chart and bar charts), PNG images and a ticker text out of our database. It then displays those in rotation inside a web browser. We then make the webbrowser full screen and display all of that on large monitors around our offices. The web application is too heavy and crashes once every 2-3 days, so it's not a good experience. We'd like to have an OSX application (possibly also iOS port at a later time) that does this natively in order to work around the web browser based performance issues.
We already have web/HTTP APIs that give all the information (ticker, images, data to build the charts, etc.), so the application should pull from those APIs. We can also share screenshots on how the information should look exactly inside the application. The developer would be able to model the application based on that so minimal design work would be needed.
For the iOS port, I'm really mostly looking into the future. There are rumors about Apple TV supporting iOS apps in the future. If this becomes reality we might want to port the application to Apple TV so that we can run the same off Apple TV, if possible.
