I have recently done that . Please check my reviews and recent projects on freelancer, one of latest projects I had done was integrating chat using node.js and sockets in ios. U would require even server side for this. There is another option of doing without server side ... but that would require little more effort. Please ping me for further details.

Hello, I have a lot of experience coding for iOS along with other platforms. This shouldn't be too difficult to implement if you are already running your app with a server side support.
