Android application developement tutoring

I installed the Android SDK Tools and Eclipse on my computer and tested the "Hello World" on an Android emulator but was unable to connect an Android phone to continue learning. I used in the past Visual Basic and Microchip assembly and should be able to get up and running once I get through the initial stages of getting used to the specific definitions and rules. We can use skype, google chat at your convenience. Perhaps hourly rate would be suitable for this but I am open to other options.
