Android app to allow people to meet through mobile phone geolocation.

Description of the application “Encounter”: For the sake of clarity, please consult the attached document “interface of Encounter application” together with these instructions. To make the instructions even more comprehensive, we will use the terms Uphone for the user’s phone and Fphone, for the phone of any given friend. This application informs the user whenever a friend is nearby, so that they can contact each other and spontaneously catch up for a short time. For that, the application needs authorizations to access both the contacts saved on the phone and the GPS coordinates. After the installation, the application derives the phone numbers and names from the contacts and with that information, it creates a contacts list. We will now explain the functions following the order of the “blocks” in the main menu of the application. 1. Activate Encounter For the application to work, it has to be manually activated on both, the Uphone and the Fphone. If one of the two phones has NOT activated the application, neither of the two will be informed about the proximity of the other. Activating means to run the application and then pulse the “activate Encounter” button. By doing so, it must become visible to the user that the application is activated. One possible ways to illustrate that is a button that changes the color from green to red; in any case, it should be clearly labeled, for example in the way of “activate Encounter”(when deactivated) or “deactivate Encounter” (when activated). However the application developer is given freedom to decide how s/he wants to make it visible, as long as this fulfills the requirement mentioned before. 2. Contacts Here, the user has the possibility to manage his contact list. The drop down menu should list “All, friends nearby, friends, incognito” in this order. The user then selects all of the contacts that he doesn’t wish to share his location with, by labeling them with “incognito”. It would be very good if some symbol or colour could label these incognito contacts in the list “All”. The contacts on the incognito list will NOT receive a notification when the user is close. This protects the privacy of the user in the way that the user decides with whom to share her/his location. Every contact which is not on the incognito list forms part of the list “friends”. Under “friends nearby”, all those friends are listed that currently within the chosen radius (more on that under point”3. Optionssearch radius”) and that have: a) activated their “Encounter application” and b) don’t have the user on their incognito list. Please add a “refresh” option here. 3. Options Let us first have a look at the search radius. This is the radius, in which the user chooses to be informed about the proximity of his friends. The values for the radius should be as indicated in the diagram: ≤500 Meters, ≤1000 Meters, ≤2000 Meters, ≤5.000 Meters. The user can activate or deactivate push-notifications; this should be labeled with a little box with a check mark (see diagram). If the push notifications are activated, the user will receive a basic message which should read “NAME OF FRIEND is nearby. Contact NAME OF FRIEND to catch up”. It should be possible to directly call the friend, since Encounter has access to the phone’s contacts. The user can however also check manually if friends are nearby (under “[login to view URL]  friends nearby (refresh)”). Lastly, the user determines an interval to refresh the search. The values should be (as indicated) “10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes”. The selected interval could again be labeled with a little box with a check mark.
