I have already worked with WS2812b led strips and understand your requirement completely. I have been part of a team creating a display from the same. The controller selection is the most challenging part for your requirement of driving 600 leds. The refresh rate would also have to be considered in the process for the selection. Obviously all the leds can not be connected to a single pin, so I hope you also have considered to use many pins. The serial port has to support {(600 x 3 bytes per led) x refresh rate}.
