About my experiences: I gained large experience in RISC processors as I worked with embedded systems for 10 years. I had to dig down into assembly level several times to find the root cause of the problems. I wrote a disassembler tool which support multiple architectures (ARM, SH4, MIPS). On request I can send you evidences, please contact me for further details. About the actual work: based on the available information the success of the job is highly depends on some factors we should clarify. For example converting the assemlies into high level code is impossible. What we can do is to identifiy some functional areas and make small modifications in the code itself. The feasibility is highly depends on what we can do. How seamlessly we can try modifications, ...etc.
