This project is a gift for my husband.
He has a story to tell. He has shared this story many times, but only in bits and pieces. This story is a part of him, and I think it would be special for him to have a book that tells the story, and would be valuable for others to read.
My husband Scott is a natural and entertaining storyteller. However, he is not a writer. That is where you come in!
THE STORY: Treeplanting in the Canadian North: Finding A New Place Within (something to this effect)
- Scott planted trees for approximately 5 summers (now 10 years ago) in Northern Canada. He has numerous stories of living in a tent, encountering the wild nature of the Canadian North, and the subculture of treeplanters in Canada
- the gruelling nature of treeplanting (12 hour days, non-stop, mosquito and black fly bites, un-relenting chronic injuries, bear encounters, etc) combined with the strongest work mentality I have seen, allowed Scott to tap into an aspect of himself that taught him more than he could have imagined.
- Scott holds the record for the most trees planted in a single day in Canada (upwards of 10,000 trees in one day!)
- how he managed to achieve this is incredible: incredible strategic planning, along with a capacity to tap into an inner strength that allowed him to continue through enormous physical pain. He often talks about this place in his mind, where he knows he can move through any obstacle - physical or emotional pain - because he has experienced this test of his limits, and moved beyond it.
- I am a family physician focusing in mental health and the role mindfulness meditation plays in wellbeing. When I hear Scott share about this, it is the same thing that meditation teaches. There was a deep spiritual component to his experience. There is much to be learned here through what could be a captivating story!
I am looking for someone who is personable, engaging, with excellent storytelling writer skills, as well an interest in the Canadian northern wilderness, treeplanting, and spirituality. I am looking for someone who Scott could meet with to share his story verbally, and for someone to create a novel out of it.
