I have a sophisticated Excel Spreadsheet that is used in the Australian Financial Advice industry. It is used for research and analysis on a couples financial situation and allows for recommendations off the back of the analyisis. One of the next features to add on is the ability to hold a database of managed funds/investments. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you have an understanding of what they are - or if not - that you research them before providing a proposal. Each fund would have detail of its fees (ICR and MER), asset allocation, buy/sell spread, and potentially performance figures. We would expect to have a list of around 500 managed funds with all this detail. There are a number of places that we will need to be able to select various managed funds, and the % that would go into each fund to produce a portfolio. The portfolio would then need the weighted total figures for each of the different variables. Also, we would need a way to be able to analyse transaction fees for rebalancing a portfolio. ie it would need to work out the buy sell spread fees on the different rebalances. This will make a lot more sense once I show you 2 spreadsheets that we have. However, given the size of the spreadsheet already - we need someone with the skills to make sure that it all works very efficiently and easily. Lastly - I require someone who is very detail oriented and ensures that they then test their work and make sure that it works how it should. I don't want to have to test it all again after each edit to make sure that it works as intended. Once Complete - there is a second project that will deal with financial projections over time. It would require quite a bit of work and will put you in good stead to get this job as well.

Also very familiar with bid ask spreads – as I am always on the lookout for medium to small shares to buy for my own portfolio. My solution would be to integrate spread sheet to access database to store all the managed fund and their performance figures there. This will make searching fast and easy. Tool could be set up that excel compares different portfolios with respect to their combined risk and absolute returns and of course there costs. Parameters could be entered and the output a list of options with their various figures of merit. Below is an example of previous project ----- interfacing equipment to database then Reporting - Receive raw data from an instrument usually csv or tab. This could be a table format or just long list. I would then convert it to a spread sheet, the data is then in a table format. Data was highlighted on this spread sheet exported in very specific csv format. This data was imported into our “Lab information system”. From there I extracted information from the database using SQL and created a report consisting of tables. These were then checked and automatically emailed to the client. Sophisticated Excel spreadsheets are what I specialize in, and I am confident that I can create the ready-to-implement (fully tested, easy-to-use, and nearly unbreakable) add-on features you are looking for. And I know how to do that with the end-user in mind, making it as easy as possible to get the answers you need from your Excel spreadsheet. I personally have a managed retirement portfolio, and really understand the impact weighted asset allocation, weighted fund allocation, and the various fees I am paying to maintain said portfolio. Getting the fees, ratios, and performance figures in a database should not be too difficult. The key there would just be structuring this database in a way that makes retrieving the necessary information easy (during, say, a rebalancing). On the topic of rebalancing, I can definitely write you an efficient automation code in Excel (using VBA) that would capture the previous balances, then new balances, and any fees associated with that. Thinking through it while typing, that might be as simple as keeping a small second database for each rebalance (which would be good for record keeping).
