Many HD camcorders like sony's have a night-shot functionality which let the user record images at night using an infrared light and removing the ir blocking filter in front of the ccd or cmos sensor, sensitive to the near infrared light in the range 700-1000nm.
But colours image sensors are optimized for day-light use, their sensitivity in the near infrared range is low, and they are not low-ligh enhanced.
Monocrome sensors are much more sensitive in the near infrared range, and some have been optimized for these freq. range. Take for example the photonfocus A1312I, which has a quantum efficiency of 40% at 900nm.
The idea behind this job is creating a prototype of a night vision HD DVR.
Phase 1: Image sensor choice
The image sensor must be optimized for infrared night vision in the range 900-100nm. Photonfocus A1312I is an option, others will be evaluated. You can evalutate ccd or cmos. HD sensors are better. Low light gathering ability is essential.
For this phase I require a market research for the best image sensor for the job. Tech specs must be evaluated. Pro/cons must be made clear. Price of the sensor must be evaluated. At the end of the phase an image sensor will be choosen.
Phase 2 - Design
Design the necessary electronic circuitry, pcb board, mechanical parts and all what is necessary. The DVR must have an electronic viewfinder (and not a LCD monitor) in order to be used like a camcorder. Buttons for starting/stopping recording. Slot for memory card. C-mount attchment for lens. C-mount controllable zoom is preferable. Portable rechargable battery.
Phase 3 - Prototype
When design phase will be completed and accepted a prototype will be build. Please specify in your bid if cost of material for the prototype will be included.
Please feel free to ask and discuss more details about the project.
When bidding I ask your evaluation about the project, your previous experience on the field, some thoughts about the image sensors, the pcb and the case. I will trash proposal without a little motivated study.
