We have an Excel spreadsheet containing 1852 geographical place names (countries/dependencies/divisions/capital cities/other large towns). The Japanese (katakana) name form for each of these has to be entered into a separate column in the spreadsheet.
Note that place names are translated into Japanese phonetically, so the translation depends on how the name is pronounced locally. For example the town of Gladstone in the USA is translated slightly differently to the town of Gladstone in Australia due to the different pronounciations used. Refer to the attached file ([login to view URL]) to see the actual Japanese translations. This means that using Google Translate will not necessarily always give the appropriate answer.
We will supply an atlas index file and contents page in Excel containing 128,000 place names in both English and Japanese, which should be used as the source for the translation. For each name the process will involve looking up the name in this index, referring to the contents page for this atlas to verify that it is in the same country as the name you are translating, and then copying the Japanese name across into the main Excel file.
It is accepted that it might not be possible to source Japanese translations for all 1852 names using this method, and for these alternative web based sources may be used – however names translated by this method must be indicated in the Excel file.
Bids will be assessed on Monday 12th September.
I am a native Japanese person and have lived in Canada for past 17 years.
Presently, I am self-employed on a part-time basis and I can deliver a high quality work promptly.
This work sounds simple but I can see it needs to be done accurately. In my bid,I included the amount of time I would like to use to refer to the list you are going to provide (to make sure the places and names match).
Thank you.
