I? have an Access database with 13625 of? the most common nouns used in the English language according to frequency counts from literary works? in the Gutenberg library. I need someone to go through the entire list and classify each noun in various categories. The only skills needed are common sense, patience, fluency in English, and knowledge of how to use resources such as google and wikipedia to look up things you may not know. This is for artificial intelligence software to give it a better understanding of objects and basic common sense.
## Deliverables
I have an Access database with 13625 of the most common nouns used in the English language according to frequency counts from literary works in the Gutenberg library.
I need someone to go through the entire list and classify each noun as either person, place, tangible, abstract/intangible. An example of a person would be "doctor", place would be "playground", tangible would be "apple", abtract/intangible would be "song". Also each noun needs to be classified as to the probability of whether an average 13-year old would know what the word means.
If a noun is intangible/abstract no further information is needed. If it is a person, place, or tangible object a short sentence descibing the function/utility of it is needed. For example "A doctor heals people", "A playground is used by kids to play on", "An apple is eaten" are all sufficient.
If the noun is a tangible object, further information as to color, mass, volume, speed, noise, taste, smell are needed. If a category is not applicable to a certain noun just leave it blank. If you are not able to figure out the exact range a certain objects mass, volume, noise level, or speed are than educated guesses are ok. For example if you don't know how much an average plum weighs but know how much a grape and apple weigh, you can reasonably pick a number between those 2. The point is not to be exact but to give the software sizes relative to other objects.
The purpose of this database to give an artificial intelligence program more information about common objects. With this data the program will be able to answer common sense questions like "What is bigger, an apple or a car?", "What color is an orange?", "Is a cat louder than a airplane?"
An access database with these nouns is attached. You must have Microsoft Access 97 or newer installed to use it. I programmed an easy to use form that helps you enter data exactly as I need it in. Depending on how you categorize things different fields will pop up with additional questions. Please take a look at it to see exactly what I'm talking about.
