Copper Mine Photo Gallery Simple Theme color tweak and edit

So we'll get to the point! I have a theme already half finished, done by a designer who then up and vanished half way through, leaving with me an incomplete product (argh!), and I need it to be finish. The file(s) are attached for reference. What I need done is simple. The 'background' is a kind of black fading to a red, however, when the page is 'really long', the black encompasses over half the darn screen and really ruins the effect, and needs to be corrected. (I'll clarify more later). Secondly, we need to the borders 'pushed out' more, as we are seeing an issue where images in our gallery are being squished, and requiring users to scroll to see them. (If at possible, a fix to this stretching would be a nice perk). :P (Again, sorry for not tagging this right, I'm unsure what the specific code is per say).
