We have a file containing dates in a wide variety for formats. We want to extract from each line the Date, Time if present, and a Room number if present. Below is a small sample of the dates. Bear in mind the dates can be written as numbers, or the months might be in written in letters and/or abbreviated. (September could be Sept, Sep, Sep. etc). We need code written in C# that will extract 99% of the information correctly and will supply a file containing 100,000 rows for testing. Basically these dates are written by a wide variety of individuals so just imagine all the different ways someone could write a date and time and use that as the guide for extracting the data. Below are a few sample dates from the file. APRIL 09, 2015 AT 8:45 AM IN ROOM 4A 09/01/2015 SEPTEMBER 6, 2013 10AM APRIL 10,2015 AT 1:30P.M. Hi, why not use Regular Expressions? For example: [0-9]{1,2}\/[0-9]{1,2}\/[0-9]{4}, could match the date format like "06/08/2014", of course here is a problem is we don't know "06/08/2014" is 6th of August or 8th of June. My idea is: we can create a set of regular expression to match the text, then save the text not matched to another file, then we review those texts manually and add new Regular Expression to the list we created at the beginning. I had ever do a similar job is to translate 300 K lines of Bus lines and Bus Stations from Chinese to English.

Will have some questions on how to handle invalid data (like 3/4 9:00 , which means that the year is missing) . Beside that everything will be easy with a lot of tests and I can guarantee a data extraction of 99% . Also I am available almost 24/7 (beside the hours I sleep) Update : also was thinking to make a notice system that will extract invalid data (or what the program will consider invalid data ) and place it in a separate text file , so I will be able to get more text patterns from there and what will make no sense to the application will be easier to be dealt manual (being separated from the valid data)

I can provide a dll that will return the dates translated into a valid C# DateTime object. I can provide overloaded methods that will process one line at a time or process a batch eg. a file stream or string as input.
