I am very proficient in c, c++. I have 15 years c++ developing experience now, and I have worked for 5 years. I have gone through courses in C and C++ programming in National University of Singapore, such programming case would be very similar to the course assignments. the case can be solved using simple arrays. Another way to solve it is to use more advanced but efficient data structure like linked list, stack or queue. You may choose the preference for the data structure as well.
