Develop application that builds 3 MySQL databases with stock (quote) data. Raw data are available in ascii format, with one file per stock (total of about 10,000 files). Quotes need to be matched on date. Final database should have 10,000 columns (stocks) by 10,000 rows (dates), and should allow fast access to specific subsets (i.e. all stocks with price > X on date Y). 3 databases required: one with open price, one with close price, and one with return. Speed is extremely important, so C language preferred.

Bid is for a PERL tool to import data and to exchange contact information wo we can discuss this further. The client language isn't going to improve speed by any significant amount.
It sounds like you need good indexing of the resulting database, more then anything else. I would also suggest a PERL solution to import the data, for greater flexability and faster prototyping. I could also do it in C/C++, but think that would not give you any advantage in speed, given a optimized perl program and proper indexation of the database.
