How would you describe or characterise your information experience in social media? Think about the seven characteristics of new mothers’ information experience in social media. Do any of these resonate for you? What other characteristics would you add? What strategies do you have in place to keep yourself up-to-date with information on topics that interest you, either personally or professionally? Think more broadly – about social information, personal news, current affairs. How do you engage with this kind of information? How do you manage information you find and might like to use again later? How do you decide what information you will engage with and what you don’t? You might notice that in the danah boyd article, the words ‘content’ and ‘information’ are used to describe the same thing. Are they the same things, or is this a conflation of terminology? Or you might like to respond to one or more of these more general critical analysis prompts: Write a critical, analytical response to one of the readings. (The danah boyd article would make an excellent choice for this.) What could be the implications of what you’ve learned from this week’s materials on your future work/research/career? What did you learn about information in social media that you did not know before? Why is this worth noting?
