We have a process that we need to automate. Once a week, we backup our 18+ databases in SQL Azure, which saves them to our Azure Storage, then we download them to a local server, unpack and restore on that local server. Today that process is mostly manual. We would like to automate that using a combination of Powershell, azure management API, and SqlPackage.exe. The process should allow us to schedule using windows task scheduler. The process should kick off a backup of each database, monitor that backup, handle errors by emailing a notification to a preconfigured account, once the backup is done, download the backup to the local machine, remove the old local database instance, then run the sql package tool to restore. As a bonus, it would be nice if we could run a script on the restored database afterward as part of the process. An example of a powershell script used to export SQL Azure db can be found at [login to view URL]

Hi, Yes, this automation can be simply achieved in powershell. I assume your smtp server can be accessible to send out email alerts. I have my Azure Subscription so I can develop scripts without dependency on you and later test those scripts in your environment. I have worked on Test Lab Automation project last month where I created an Azure Automation to restore Test VMs to a base configuration state. I have 11+ years of experience as full stack developer and solution designer. Relevant Azure experience is 4+ years. Please ping me to discuss more on your project. Thanks Prasoon
