I have recently returned to the UK after travelling through some fantastic cities in Europe. Whilst I was travelling I took the opportunity to write about some of these cities. Here is a sample of the text I wrote for Verona...
Verona. Home of the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. This city is one of the most favoured places to visit in Italy and for good reason. Not only is this city home to one of Shakespeare's greatest plays, it is only an hours train journey away from both Venice and Milan. Walking any street in the centre of Verona will take you on a tour through the ages, from right back to the Roman Empire up to the modern day.
During the height of the Roman Empire, Verona was known as a trade centre, and some of the structures built during that period are still standing today.
Verona's Roman Arena (the third largest in Italy, after the Colosseum), has been home to some of the most prestigious opera festivals since 1913. During the summer months, you can enjoy theatre shows inside the Arena, with the sun shining down onto the performances, making this one of the best acts you will ever see.
Built during the 12th century, Lamberti's Tower, makes for a fabulous place to view the city of Verona and the surrounding area. Whether you choose to climb the 368 stairs or jump on the elevator to the top of the tower, the incredible sights are worth the trip.
With fantastic food, wine, coffee, history and views, Verona encompasses everything we all love about Italy.
