The Laser Printer works on the simple principle of Static electricity, where oppositely charged atoms of materials are attracted to each other. The Printer contains a component called “Drum” inside it, which is positively charged. This drum is then revolved so that there is a very small laser beam that shines on certain points on the surface, which are called discharge points. So the laser acts as an imaginary inkjet which leaves behind a virtual pattern of electrical charges in the place where the image or text needs to be printed. Next the drum is coated with positively charged toner, or also known as black powder. Next the paper is fixed on a moving belt below, which is charged negatively. Next we let Static electricity work its magic, as the positively charged black powder gets attracted towards the negatively charged sheet of paper in the exact pattern of what needs to be printed, as it follows the pattern of the laser beam.
