Facebook Gets Closer to The Faces of The World
Oculus Rift is a virtual reality gaming company that was just bought for 2 billion dollars by Facebook. At first thought this may not make any sense, Facebook and gaming? Unlike Instagram and Whatsapp, two of Zuckerberg's previous acquisitions, Oculus Rift didn't pose a threat to Facebook. So why?
Mark Zuckerberg explained the acquisitions upside as a step into the future. Believing that Virtual reality could be the next major computing platform, he explained the various applications of the companies technology aside from gaming.
"W e're going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences," said Zuckerberg. "Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home. This is really a new communication platform."
For only 200 Million cash, this deal isnt make or break for Facebook, not even close. So even if it is a reach, its really a win win.. If Zuckerberg turns out to be right this could be huge for Facebook. If not, it is likely that the company's stock will still be rewarded for taking chances, and being transparent in there quest to find he next must have tech.
